The Conservatives said they will be back to try to bring the Commonwealth Games in Wales.
Culture Minister Sajid Javid, the campaign in Wales, he said, can bring people together and celebrate the "unity in diversity".
The games were held in Cardiff in 1958, could also be an economic boost to Wales, the Conservatives.
Cardiff Council and the Welsh Assembly Government have examined a possible bid for 2026.

Said before his visit to Wales on Monday, Javid said: "Wales has always played an important role in the over 60 years ago, the organization of the Commonwealth Games - I think it is back at the time, and I'm glad to see Welsh Conservatives will work together to get there.
"The Commonwealth Games is to bring people together and celebrate our unity in diversity, and sport is one of the best ways to do it."
He added: "I really hope that Wales was in his bid to know well, the passion that the Welsh are sports and I know they want to see this property to a successful reality.".
In another part of the campaign Welsh Labour will provide for the support of older voters, and said it would keep without passports and television licenses.
Plaid Cymru director Leanne Wood has welcomed the support of the leader of the SNP, Nicola Sturgeon, by parity of power and funding in Wales with Scotland.
"Since the SNP is produced in Scotland Plaid Cymru to fight for the best possible deal for Wales in this election," he said.
The Liberal Democrats should affirm against regional wages in the public sector.
